Approximately 900 .56 caliber rifles in the 33,000-34,000 serial number range purchased by the U.S. Navy between December 1860-April 1861 for issue to Marines and sailors on warships. "(Navy anchor)/U.S" marked top of breech. "GDM" collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes leather sling, "Navy anchor" marked brass handled saber bayonet and leather scabbard.
