Cased Inscribed Pre-Civil War Colt Factory Error Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver

Manufactured 1856 without "COLT'S/PATENT" marking on the left of the frame. The back strap is inscribed "H.F. Austin, Peoria Ill". A possible candidate for the inscription is Henry Austin, listed as a surgeon in the headquarters company of the 13th Illinois Cavalry, whose residence is listed as Princeton, Illinois, only approximately 50 miles from Peoria. There is also a Henry Austin listed in the muster rolls of the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery, which was organized in Peoria. Includes a hardwood case, Dixon & Sons powder flask, Colts Patent dual-cavity bullet mold, and cap tin.
