Manufactured in 1870 and illustrated on page 113 of "The Winchester Book" by Madis. The serial number is on lower tang inside an engraved banner. The receiver features broad scrollwork, blank inscription panels, and a motif on the left side plate based on the Mexican coat of arms with a golden eagle, rattlesnake, and cactus. This same pattern is seen on several other Winchester Model 1866s shown in "Winchester Engraving" and "The Book of Winchester Engraving" by Wilson including on the consecutive serial number 44266 as well as others "The Winchester Book." R.L. Wilson identified these rifles as "Ulrich engraved" in his chapter "Model 1866 and the Ulrichs" indicating the work was done by one of the famous members of the Ulrich family of firearms engravers.

Rating Definition:

Fair with moderate to heavy overall wear including mild pitting, loose forearm, some absent or broken parts, replaced saddle ring and staple, replacement barrel band, and nice replacement wood with minor scratches and dings. Mechanically good.
