Exceptional Antique Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1890, this is an outstanding example of a Winchester Model 1873 saddle ring carbine, having the third model receiver with integral dust cover guide and dust cover with gripping serrations at the rear. Winchester's Model 1873 was incredibly popular during the late 19th century, often being cited as one of the guns that "won the west". They were not only valued for their ruggedness and immense firepower for the time, but also due to sharing many of the same calibers with Colt's Single Action Army revolver, allowing one to carry only one type of ammunition. The included factory letter confirms the caliber as .44 as well as receipt at the warehouse on 21 January 1890 and shipment on 29 January 1890 in order number 8736. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address and patent dates, as well as the caliber marking at the breech, which is repeated on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The upper tang is marked with the model designation and the serial number is on the lower tang. It is fitted with a block blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight, and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor carbine buttplate containing an included three-piece cleaning rod.

ConditionExceptionally fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish, 85% plus of the vibrant original case colors, and 95% of the original niter blue on the loading gate, with some light wear on some high spots, edges, and from the saddle ring. The wood is very fine with a few scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. This Winchester Model 1873 saddle ring carbine would be difficult to improve upon!
