Description:

These rifles were the standard service rifle from 1892 when they replaced the single shot trapdoors until 1903 when they were replaced by the famous Springfield Model 1903 rifles. However, they remained in use into WWI by reserve and support units. This example has a crisp "JSA/1902" inspector's cartouche and standard markings and features.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 98% plus original blue and dark oil quenched casehardened finish. The niter blue on the bolt remains particularly vibrant. There is some bayonet mounting wear at the muzzle and some light patina forming on the bolt handle. The exceptional stock has a rich oil finish and only some slight handling and storage type marks and dings. The markings throughout including the cartouches are crisp. Mechanically excellent. This is certainly a superior Model 1898 Krag and would be a very attractive addition to a U.S. martial arms collection.
