Consecutively Serialized Pair of U.S. Springfield M1C Garand Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifles with Lyman Alaskan Scopes and Matching Numbered Brackets

A) Excellent Documented U.S. Springfield M1C Garand Sniper Rifle

This M1C Garand sniper rifle is offered as a pair with its consecutively serialized counterpart, the "B" gun in this lot. In the included GCA Journal Volume 22 Issue 3 Summer 2008, pictures of the “B” gun, serial number 3717220, are featured on page 9 in the article "M1C Research Update" by Dave McClain, Steve Rutledge and Bob Seijas, in which the article states, "Shown is a perfect example of the typical late 1951 build at Springfield in response to the order for 3,087 M1C's for the Korean War. Note the late serial number and the complete absence of receiver staking, suggesting that this was a leftover receiver or rifle at the end of WWII." The first semi-automatic sniper rifle adopted by the U.S. military, the M1C sniper rifle was developed in 1944 and was the standard issue sniper rifle during late World War II, Korea and saw use into Vietnam. The M1C was an effective weapon but intricate in construction; one would need to take a receiver off the line mid-production, ship it to Griffin & Howe of New York for scope rail installation, then return it to Springfield to be made into a complete rifle. While in theory superseded by the more armorer-friendly M1D, the M1C served well as a primary sniper rifle. The receiver of this rifle was manufactured in April of 1945, assembled in the Korean War era with an "S-A-9-51" barrel showing a bright chamber face, blade front and peep rear sights with closed arrows, Springfield "SA" bolt, "SA" trigger housing and components with unmarked stamped trigger guard, relief cut "SA" operating rod, and cross slot gas plug. The scope rail/bracket is secured to the left side of the receiver with three screws and two pins, matching serial numbered "3717219" to the rifle on the left, with a Griffin & Howe patent marked ring mount assembly numbered "3346938". The scope is blue finished, with Lyman Alaskan markings, serial numbered "B2088", rubber eyepiece and with crosshair reticle. The left of the smooth pistol grip stock is stamped with a boxed DoD eagle cartouche, circled "P" proof stamped on the wrist and a checkered steel buttplate. Both rifles are fitted with olive drab green canvas slings, "MRT/8 51" brown leather cheekpieces, thick bracket Hart M2 flash hiders, and both rifles also include CMP letters of Authenticity both dated September 26, 2011, and CMP shipping boxes and cases.

ConditionExcellent, retains 97% plus arsenal refurbished Du-Lite and parkerized finishes with a few minor handling marks. Stock is very fine with scattered dents and scratches, defined edges and cartouche. Mechanically excellent. The scope retains 95% plus original blue finish with crisp clear optics. Box is fine.
