Dated 1821 on the lock plate. The pistol has iron mountings, swivel steel ramrod and oval rear sight on the barrel tang. The lock has a unique sliding safety bolt located behind the hammer and a detachable brass flash pan. All of the fittings are iron and the stock is oil-finished black walnut. Lock plate is marked with an Eagle and Shield between "U" and "S" in front of the hammer. "S. NORTH" is stamped in a downward arc above the eagle and "MIDLtn CONN." is stamped in a upward arc below it. The left side of the barrel is stamped with "JDJ / P / US" proof and inspection marks. Condemnation indent present on left side of barrel (usually confirms original flintlock configuration). The grip straps extend to the rounded steel buttcap.
