Model 1816 Flintlock manufactured by Brook Evans in 1824 at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The Type II Musket has a browned barrel and bands, casehardened lock with detachable brass pan and a low-comb walnut stock. The lower sling swivel is mounted on a stud in front of the trigger guard bow. The lock plate is rounded behind the hammer and is flat with beveled edges ahead of it. The hammer is rounded with a reinforced cock. The musket has an iron ramrod with button head. The rear of the lock is stamped with the vertical date: "824" and the initials "B.E.". A eagle and shield motif surrounded by *B. EVANS* VALLEY FORGE is stamped in front of the hammer. The barrel tang is dated "1824" and the left side of the barrel is stamped with the and inspection mark, "LS", over and indented "P" proof followed by "U.S.". The left stock flat is stamped with a "V" inspection mark and an illegible, oval, inspection stamp.
