Fine U.S. Pomeroy Contract Model 1816 Percussion Conversion Rifled Musket with Long Range Sight

Marked with a slightly fading "1842 / US" vertically behind the hammer, eagle and shield motif over "L. POMEROY" in front of the hammer, the barrel tang is marked "1842" and the left rear of the barrel is marked "US / [illegible marking / P". The musket has converted from flintlock to percussion using the Belgian style or "cone" type conversion. These conversions were performed by U.S. arsenals from the 1840s to the late 1860s after the final decision to stop all flintlock production was made in 1842. Has the original iron ramrod with a trumpet style head and the iron buttplate is marked "US" and "28" on the tang. The left stock flat is marked with two cartouches, two illegible markings on top of the buttstock, "JF" behind the trigger guard and "28" near the upper tang.

ConditionVery fine. The metal surfaces have been cleaned at one time and a protective coating has been applied, giving the metal surfaces a light brown patina. The reoiled stock is very fine with crisp crisp cartouches, some minor dings and a gouge out of the left flat. Mechancially excellent.
