Wood Marked Flintlock Pistol

This is an example of a Luke Wood Flintlock Pistol. Luke Wood of Pleasant Falls, Massachusetts, operated his gun shop form 1794 to 1821. His primary business was the manufacture of locks and pistols for the Massachusetts State Militia. He had one U.S. government contract for the 1808 musket. His home was built near his gun shop, which was once known as "Miller Chase", an old mill built by Daniel Chase in the 1700s. This pistol has a multi-barrel locking system for which Wood held the patent. The lock plate is marked "WOOD". Floral engraving on the barrel tang and trigger guard. Stock has a checkered grip area and a blank silver initial oval.

ConditionGood. Overall the pistol has a mottled brown patina with a smooth patina on the lock. There is minor pitting. The stock is very good as repaired with some minor handling marks, a chip missing near the lock and crisp checkering.
