Antique Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine in Desirable 38-55 Caliber with Cody Firearms Museum Letter

This carbine was manufactured in 1897 in 38-55 WCF and according to the included letter from the Cody Firearms Museum it was not received by the warehouse until January 17, 1900. It then shipped out on August 7th as part of order 66694. It features a blade front sight, a folding rear sight graduated to 900 yards and a full magazine. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address in front of the rear sight with "38-55" at the breech and proofmarks also at the breech on the barrel and frame. The upper tang is marked with the model and trademark information and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. There is a saddle ring mounted on the left side of the frame. It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with "MWR" faintly marked on the right side of the butt just in front of the steel carbine buttplate.

ConditionFine. The carbine retains 40% of the original finish with finish thinning to form a brown patina on the barrel and magazine tube. Some finish is retained on the frame which is otherwise bright. Case colors are visible on the hammer and lever. It has various scratches and marks throughout. There is some oxidation on the upper area of the buttplate. The wood is very good with a dark coloration and some minor marks, scratches, and dings. Mechanically excellent.
