Considered one of the finest and strongest lever actions made by Winchester, this example was manufactured in 1891 with a case-hardened receiver, loading lever, buttplate and forend cap and with blued barrel, magazine tube and bolt. The rifle has a half moon front sight with bead and sporting type rear sight and full length tube magazine. The top of the barrel is marked: "- MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN.CONN.U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight followed by "40-82 W.C.F." ahead of the breech. The lower tang is marked with the two line patent information behind the trigger and has the serial number at the rear. The upper tang is roll-stamped "-MODEL 1886-". Smooth forend with steel endcap and straight grip buttstock with steel crescent buttplate. Includes a factory letter that verifies the configuration and lists the date it was received (July 1891) and the date it was shipped (Sept. 1892) from the Winchester warehouse.

Good. The rifle retain traces of the blue finish on the bolt and some on the loading gate with the finish thinned to a brown patina across most of the remaining areas. The casehardened components are mostly a "silvered out" mottled gray patina with some traces of the case colors visible on the hammer. The weathered wood is very good with some scratches, dents, dings, and marks. Mechanically fine.
