Manufactured in 1891, this Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring carbine has the Third Model dust cover on an integral central guide rail, a blade front sight and rear sight with folding ladder graduated to "9" and marked "1873". The top of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860." The caliber is marked on the carrier and on top of the barrel. The serial number is marked on the lower tang while the model designation is marked between two foliate designs on the upper tang (both in script). The saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the receiver. It has a plain forearm and straight grip stock with a steel buttplate and a single barrel band.
