Manufactured in 1883, this example has the integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges, a nickel-silver blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights. The upper tang has the standard model marking with foliate designs underneath the adjustable peep sight mount. It is fitted with a walnut straight wrist stock and forearm. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line Winchester address and King's Improvement patent information. "38 CAL" is marked at the breech and bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The serial number is stamped in script numerals on the lower tang. The crescent buttplate has an empty compartment for a cleaning rod.
