Description:

This Whitney revolver was designed to compete with the Colt Model 1855 Pocket revolver. Less than 2,000 are believed to have been produced between 1860 and 1867. It has a brass cone front sight, top strap notch/groove rear sight, casehardened hammer, and varnished walnut grips. The barrel is marked "E. WHITNEY/NEW HAVEN" and the cylinder has a roll scene of an eagle, shield, and lion motifs This example comes in a hardwood case with lead balls, dual cavity bullet mold, Goodyear patent powder flask, Eley Bros. tin of caps, a combination tool, and an old rag. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, the butt, and the underside of each grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 60% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish along with traces of case colors and a brown patina on the balance. The grips are excellent with glossy varnish and some slight chipping at the junction with the frame on the left. It has crisp markings and is mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some cracks and separation around the key escutcheon along with general storage wear. The accessories are all very fine.
