This Third Model Winchester Model 1873 was manufactured in 1891 with the integral dust cover rail and a dust cover with serrated edges. The top of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT/KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860" ahead of the rear sight and has the caliber designation "32 W.C.F." at the breech. The bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "32 CAL." The serial number is stamped in script on the lower tang. It features a German silver blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight, and it is mounted with a varnished walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished (wood). The rifle displays a mostly even, deep brown patina with traces of the original finish and some scattered minor scratches. The brass has an aged patina. The wood is good as sanded and varnished with mostly faded varnish on the forearm, strong varnish retention on the buttstock, a few pressure marks and chips, and some minor abrasions. It is mechanically fine and has crisp markings.
