Exceptional Antique Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured in 1896. The top barrel flat has the two-line address markings ahead of the rear sight and "40-82 W.C.F." at the breech. The two-line/two-patent dates are marked on the lower tang behind the trigger with the serial number at the end. Lyman folding combination front sight and an adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight. Blue barrel, frame, and full length magazine, with casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with metal forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

ConditionExcellent. The rifle retains 95% original blue finish overall with some muzzle wear, some flaking on the muzzle end of the magazine tube, as well as some wear from normal use of the takedown feature. There is some thinning to a smooth gray patina on the upper edges of the receiver, some minor spotting on the underside and some very minor flaking. 99% original blue remains on the bolt with a very small amount of light spotting. The upper tang has a forward screw filed off with no slot remaining. The lower tang shows some thinning from normal handling. 85% of the original bright case colors remain on the hammer and lever. Much of the original faded case colors remain on the buttplate with a smooth dove gray patina on the balance. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered minor dings and light scratches. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent. An exceptionally nice Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle.
