The rifle was manufactured in 1900 and is equipped with a dovetailed blade front sight and three leaf rear sight and mounted with a smooth straight wrist stock and forearm with rifle buttplate. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight and "50 EX" (standard marking for .50-110-450) at the breech. The upper tang has the model designation, and the serial number is on the lower tang. In "Winchester Model 1886 Caliber .50-100-450" authors Jim Paul and Tom Adams note that there was apparently little demand for Winchester's "Big Fifty" given that only 331 were manufactured between 1894 and 1913.
