Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle

This Third Model 1876 was manufactured in 1884 and has a Beach combination front sight, folding ladder rear sight, and tang mounted, short range replacement Vernier peep sight. It has the standard Winchester markings, a smooth walnut forearm, and straight wrist buttstock with crescent rifle buttplate and empty trapdoor compartment. The Model 1876 was the first Winchester to offer chamberings strong enough for big game. The .45-75 was designed to replicate the well respected .45-70 cartridge in a shorter repeating action and was used by many American sportsmen and frontiersmen in the Gilded Age of late 19th century America, including a boisterous twenty-two year old who purchased an 1876 as his first Winchester: Theodore Roosevelt.

ConditionFine as partially refinished (wood and magazine tube). The rifle retains 50% of the original blue finish on the barrel and action. The magazine tube has an applied even artificial brown patina. The lever and hammer have significant, partially subdued case colors. The buttplate has mostly a gray patina. There is some light spotting. The reoiled wood is fine with several scrapes and dents primarily on the buttstock along with a few chips. The action functions fine, and the markings are generally crisp.
