Description:

Manufactured in 1904 with deluxe features on an engraved takedown receiver. The rifle is equipped with blade and adjustable sporting sights on the half-octagon, half-magazine, "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" barrel, with a mid-range adjustable peep sight on the tang of the "MARLIN SAFETY" receiver. Light scrollwork is present at the breech of the barrel, with deeper punch-dot backed designs on the takedown iron and frame, the latter also bearing a scene of a deer standing in the woods on the right side beneath the ejector port and a larger scene of a stag pursued into a clearing by a wolf on the left. Fitted with a fancy walnut pistol grip stock with checkering at the wrist and forearm, a checkered Marlin buttplate, and a silver shield on the right side of the buttstock inscribed "Edward Field Goltra". Though not confirmed as belonging to him, research shows an Edward Field Goltra as a steel executive and prominent St Louis citizen during the early 20th century. (Of historic note, St. Louis held the World's Fair in the same year as this rifle was manufactured).

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored to near mint condition showing some light handling marks overall. The recheckered stock is very fine with a cracked/repaired buttplate and minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
