Manufactured in 1910. This Winchester Model 1890 slide action rifle has a beautiful birdseye maple groove forearm and checkered straight grip stock. At the time of this writing the cataloger did not have a factory letter. However, the buttstock is stamped with the factory Model 1890 assembly number under the crescent buttplate. This marking is "90" for Model 1890 above the assembly number "10755." Winchester marked special order Model 1890 stocks with an assembly number. The buttplate is also stamped with the assembly number "10755." Birdseye maple is a rarely seen special order feature. Examples of birdseye stocked Winchester slide action rifles are pictured in Ned Schwing's "Winchester Slide-Action Rifles Volume I: Model 1890 & Model 1906" on page 138. For special order buttstock assembly number information see pages 150 and 151. The rifle has a dovetail front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight and takedown frame. The upper left barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/patent information followed by "-MOD. 1890-" ahead of the rear sight and "22 W.R.F." at the breech. The front of the frame is marked "W.R.F." The Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The matching serial number is stamped on the underside of the frame and lower tang. The upper tang has the three line Winchester trade mark information.
Excellent. The rifle retains nearly 90% plus original blue finish with most of the loss on the magazine tube. There is a patch of minor pitting on the barrel. The wood is also excellent showing the slightest handling marks. The checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent. Do not miss your chance to obtain a special order deluxe maple stock Model 1890 rifle that is rarely encountered. A must have for the serious Winchester slide action rifle collector.
