This is an excellent example of a deluxe special order early production 1886 Winchester lever action rifle. This rifle is accompanied by a factory letter dated Jan 2009 that substantiates this exact configuration. The factory used extra fancy grade walnut in both the stock and forend. As noted this is a fairly low production caliber as it was overshadowed by the 40-65 and 45-70 calibers and certainly is a fairly rare rifle with standard features except let alone the deluxe pistol grip stock and exceptional wood. This rifle was produced July 1891. The top barrel flat is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE/--WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.--" with breech end of the barrel marked "40-82 W.C.F.". The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-" with the serial number marked on the rear of the lower tang and the two line, two patent date marking directly behind the trigger. It has a silver blade front sight and an adjustable sporting rear sight with serrations on the sides of the blade. It has a combination of blued parts with a color casehardened receiver, hammer, loading lever, forend cap and butt plate.
