Description:

Offered here is an exhibition engraved, gold inlaid and carved Winchester Model 94 carbine with a March 16, 1967 dated copy of a Winchester Museum letter. The aforementioned letter confirms the engraving, gold inlay and fancy checkered select, straight grain walnut stock. According to the letter, shipping records indicate that the carbine was a factory exhibition piece from 1934 through 1948. Subsequent information supplied by Cody Firearms Records Office dated May 24, 2017 only state that the "serial number applied on November 24, 1936…No configuration information available." The receiver has a floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background with gold inlaid borders and gold inlaid game scenes. The left side of the receiver has a bear in a mountain scene, and the right side has a running stag in a woodland scene. The game scenes are early patterns that are found in Winchester's "Highly Finished Arms." Scrollwork and gold inlay accents extend to the lever and barrel at the muzzle and breech. The bolt has engraved leaves and scrollwork. Scrollwork is also featured on the buttplate tang. The forearm and straight grip stock exhibit checkering accented with carved floral scroll motifs. A similar Model 94 carbine (milestone serial number 2500000) is identified and pictured in George Madis' "The Winchester Book" on page 446. It is fitted with a hooded ramp front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The left side of the barrel has the Winchester legend, the right side of the barrel has the two-line address, the top of the barrel and receiver have a Winchester factory oval proof at the breech, and the upper tang has the three-line Winchester trademark information.

Rating Definition:

Very fine showing factory or factory quality restoration, showing a few very scattered minor handling marks overall. Mechanically excellent.
