Relief Engraved Smith & Wesson Model 60 Double Action Revolver with Box

This fantastically engraved revolver features near full coverage floral and scroll engraving on a contrasting matte background with delicate fine line shading, tight detail, and eye catching contrast. The only visible areas not featuring fine engraving are the cylinder flutes and the top of the front strap. Per the S&W Historian, Roy Jinks, this revolver was shipped in December 1968 to a Florida dealer and, per noted engraving historian and Master Engraver Roger Bleile, author of American Engravers (1980) and American Engravers in the 21st Century, the engraving was performed by Hiroo Sugaya. Sugaya was a European trained master engraver, and was known for his ability to finely engrave stainless steel (significantly more difficult than standard carbon steel). Though the engraving is unsigned it bears a striking resemblance to several known Sugaya engraved Model 60 revolvers, and it is known that Sugaya was contracted by distributor REI to engrave at least five such revolvers in 1969. Features serrated ramp blade front and frame notch rear sights, standard barrel and frame markings, checkered hammer, and a serrated trigger. The right grip panel and cylinder are numbered to the gun. The factory box is numbered to the gun and the end label notes the special feature of "BS” that indicates bright steel, a type of feature Sugaya engraved revolvers have in common.

ConditionExtremely fine as professionally embellished by Master Engraver Hiroo Sugaya in bright lustre finish. The metal surfaces show only faint handling evidence. The grips are like new with sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is excellent as well.
