The factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, that it was received in the warehouse on January 8, 1892 and shipped to order number 17900 on January 12, 1892. The barrel has a standard dovetailed blade front sight and an adjustable Marble's rear sight. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address and "38-56 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-", and the lower tang is marked with the serial number as well as the 1884 and 1885 patent dates. Blue barrel and magazine tube, and casehardened remaining metal surfaces. Mounted with a multi-point checkered nicely figured walnut forearm with a metal end cap and pistol grip stock with an ebony insert and crescent buttplate.
