Spectacular, Extremely Rare and Early U.S. Springfield Armory "Gas Trap" M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle Serial Number 19059

This is an exceptional all correct, early U.S. Springfield Armory "Gas Trap" M1 Garand Rifle manufactured circa October 1940. This early production M1 rifle has all the correct and difficult to obtain early Gas-Trap components. It has an original unmodified Gas Trap receiver, unlike most that were altered to prevent the 7th round stoppage issue, that is stamped: "U.S. RIFLE/CAL..30 M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/19059". The receiver has a smooth dark green/gray type parkerized finish with the barrel having the same type of finish as the receiver, with the breech end having a combined partially green/gray and in the white polished finish. The right side of the barrel has single large "P" proofmark with a punch-mark in the center stamped just before the step. It is fitted with the correct first revision bolt that is stamped on top with: D28287-1/D 5". The rifle has the correct, early, "long channel" stock with checkered buttplate, with no butt-trap and no drawing number on the side. The butt has the correct "large over small hole" configuration. The left side of the stock is stamped with a light "SA/SPG" final inspection mark and a circled, serifed "P" proofmark inside of the pistol grip area. The stock has no visible rebuild marks. The front handguard has the "lip type" front ferrule, and both the upper and lower handguard bands are grooved. It is fitted with the correct early style handguards with both have the corresponding drawing numbers, "C 46005" and "C 46006" respectively on the right side. The rifle is fitted with a stainless steel, second variation gas cylinder with "D-28289" drawing number on the top of the rear band. The gas cylinder is fitted with a second pattern, blued front sight with the drawing number: "B-8882-0" on the right side and early pattern gas plug with the lightening hole in the front. The gas cylinder, plug and sight all appear to be original. The internal parts, bullet guide, op rod catch, follower, follower rod, and follower arm, are all correct and have the early light blued finish with the follower still in the white. It has the correct early trigger housing and internal parts: housing "D 28290", milled trigger guard, "C 46025" hammer, "C46008-1" Safety, "C 46015-A" with the early blued hammer spring housing assembly. The windage knob has the fine checkering found on early production rifles, with the rear sight cover marked "B 8872". The elevation knob has solid arrows. It is fitted with an unmodified operating rod, marked "D 35382-0". The operating rod is fitted with the early two-piece keystone operating rod spring. The spring is fitted with the second pattern, round cross section operating rod spring guide. Providence from the Allan Cors collection, a renowned high end martial arms collector.

ConditionExcellent with 95% of the original green parkerized finish overall showing only minor edge and high spot wear with some finish loss on the right side receiver rail from hand cycling the action. The complete gas cylinder assembly has browned out. The wood components are very fine with a nice original matching color on all three components showing only minor handling marks in some areas with clear proofs and drawing numbers. A really super nice, all original, high end early M1 Gas Trap M1 Garand. Probably one of the best all original early Gas Trap M1 Garand still in existence.
