Manufactured in 1882 as a second model (dust over guide rail attached to the receiver by two screws and a dust cover with serrated finger grip at the rear). The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a special order 26 inch octagon barrel and plain trigger when it was received in the warehouse on February 24, 1882, and shipped on March 4, 1882. It has dovetailed blade and elevation adjustable sights on a barrel with the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight. The rifle correctly lacks caliber markings. "MODEL 1873" is marked on the upper tang. Mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate featuring a compartment (cleaning rod not included).
