According the accompanying factory letter, this rifle original left the factory as a carbine with 20 inch octagon barrel in .44 caliber, plain trigger and plain pistol grip stock. It was returned to the factory on August 22, 1906, and changed to a rifle starting on September 26, 1906 and shipped on October 2 with a 30 inch octagon barrel in .38 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock and Lyman hunting front sight. A photocopy of the factory ledger is also included. Beaded blade Lyman front and elevation adjustable rear sights on the special order, extra long 30 inch barrel marked with the two-line address/patent dates information and "38 W.C.F." A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver. A Lyman tang peep sight is installed. Mounted on nicely figured and checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with hard rubber factory grip cap and crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "18334," the stock inlet is marked "234532," and the buttplate is marked "18554."
