Description:

This is an exceptional example of a very rare WWI trench shotgun that was manufactured under U.S. Army contract by the Remington/UMC company. These were only produced for a very short time with most being reconverted back into riot or sporting shotguns over time. Original examples are found in the serial number range of 117731-165566 and are considered the apex of a U.S. martial shotgun collection. These have the factory blued finish with a varnished slide handle, buttstock and "wooden" handguard mounted on top of the barrel. The top of the barrel is correctly marked (under the handguard) "10A-REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO./REMINGTON WORKS, ILLION NEW YORK USA/PATENTED FEBRUARY 3, 1903, AND MAY 16, 1905.". The right side of the barrel has the correct Remington, circled "REP" factory proof with the matching serial number "165156" stamped upside down on the lower side. The front underside of the receiver also has been stamped with the correct, matching serial number of "U165156". It is fitted with an original blued bayonet lug with the correct "Eagle Head" proof on the front end. The left side of the receiver is stamped with an U.S. Ordnance "Shell and Flame" proof over "U S". As noted, it has a varnished ribbed pump handle and buttstock with a sling swivel attached to the front end of the magazine tube and the lower underside of the stock. The buttstock has a smooth pistol grip shape with a hard rubber, checkered buttplate that is impressed with the Remington/UMC logo. The length of pull is 13 3/4 inch. It comes with a WWI leather sling marked: "W.T.& B CO./1918/C.A.C.".

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall, with blue wear on the edges and high spots, and blue loss on the pump handle and magazine tube from cycling the action. The wood components all retain most of their varnish showing an overcoat of varnish applied on the slide handle and numerous light handling marks or scratches in various areas. This is an exceptionally rare WWI U.S. Remington/UMC Model 10 trench shotgun.
