Winchester 1876 "Centennial Model" Sporting Rifle manufactured c. 1884. This rifle features the Second Model receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated finger guides along the rear edges. The rifle has a full octagon barrel and full length magazine. The barrel has a Lyman "Hunting" front sight with colored insert and folding leaf rear sight graduated to "10" and marked "1876" at the top of the leaf. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The crescent buttplate has a sliding brass trapdoor, and the butt trap contains a four piece, jointed, steel cleaning rod. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1865. OCTOBER 16. 1860." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "CAL. 45-75" is roll-stamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver. "45-75" is stamped in script numerals across the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "- MODEL. 1876.-" in fancy letters with foliate devices at either end. The serial number is stamped in script numerals on the lower tang between the lever latch and rear tang screw. The barrel and magazine have a blue finish, and the forearm cap, receiver, side plates, dust cover and crescent buttplate have the Winchester high polish blue finish. The loading gate is fire blue. The hammer, trigger and loading lever are color casehardened with muted case colors. The stock and forearm are American walnut with a varnish finish.

Excellent. The barrel and magazine have 95% plus blue finish. The barrel markings are extremely sharp. The barrel band, forearm cap, receiver, side plates and dust cover have at least 95% of the bright original high polish blue finish. There is some very minor finish wear on the edges of the receiver and side plates and some scuff marks and finish loss on the dust cover rail. The blue finish on the buttplate shows silvering on the toe and heal and retains 70% of the original blue. The loading gate has 98% of the fire blue finish. The subdued case colors on the hammer, trigger and lever are 90%. The stock and forearm are all in excellent condition with most of the original varnish; wear is limited to a few scattered and very insignificant handling marks. It would be difficult to find a better example of a scarce and very desirable Winchester Centennial Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle.
