Description:

This is just about the largest and most powerful double rifle made anywhere in the world. Skillfully hand crafted by master gunsmith Ken Owen of Memphis, Tennessee in the early 1990's, this is an exceptional and truly rare 4 bore double rifle. This rifle is modeled after a rifle made for the Maharajah of Rewa, India who was an extremely wealthy avid sportsman in the early 20th century. Holland & Holland made the only known 4-bore cordite double rifle for the Maharajah in the 1920s. Mr. Owen made only six of these enormous double rifles and spent approximately "1000 hours" crafting each gun (see the autumn 2009 issue of the Double Gun Journal pg. 53-57 for extensive information on the Ken Owen 4 Bore rifles). Using 100 year old investment casting techniques this rifle is entirely hand made. Steel barrels, with bore diameters in the true 4 bore range of 1.052", large action with Greener cross bolt third fastener, and bushed firing pins. Double triggers. Two-leaf express rear sights graduated to 100 yards with platinum sight lines. Fixed post front sight with folding "night" sight. The left barrel is marked "REWA 4" CASE 2000 GRN BULLET". The rib is marked "M.K. OWEN/4 BORE/MEMPHIS TN". The right barrel is marked "70 GRS. CORDITE". The serial number "KMG001" is marked on the lower tang. This rifle is engraved with highly attractive splashes of floral and scroll designs. The breech end of the barrels and top of the rib exhibit simple but fine, tight scroll engraving. The sides of the receiver are signed "MK OWEN" just below the lock plates. The break lever, trigger guard, and grip cap are similarly engraved. The rifle is finished with triple-X-fancy, hand checkered, English walnut forearm with an Anson style release, and matching buttstock with a left hand shadow line cheekpiece and solid rubber recoil pad. 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 14 7/8 inch length of pull; 26 pounds. The rifle includes a custom Rod Kibler sling, leather Rod Kibler custom shell holder, and unmarked leather flap shell holder.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 98% plus original blue finish remains with some visible wear near the right muzzle, handling marks, and a small bright spot on the underside of the barrels. The engraving is sharp and 98% original vibrant case colors remain. The stock is also excellent with crisp checkering, attractive grain, and a few small scattered dings. Mechanically needs work, front trigger/right barrel will not fire. A truly impressive example of a big bore double rifle.
