Scarce Cased Buffalo Bill Historical Center Winchester Museum Factory Engraved and Gold and Silver Plated Colt Third Generation Single Action Army Revolver

This revolver is one of 250 revolvers manufactured by Colt and engraved and plated by the Colt Custom Gun Shop for the Winchester Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The cases were produced by Arno Werner, chief bookbinder for Harvard's Houghton Library until 1982. It has "Buffalo Bill Historical Center/WINCHESTER MUSEUM/1 of 250" on the left side of the barrel along with a man on horseback. The left side of the frame has "FEB. 26. 1846/JAN. 10. 1917" in place of the usual patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The dates represent Buffalo Bill Cody's birth and death. The recoil shield has a bison head, and Cody's signature is engraved on the back strap. The rest of the engraving consists primarily of traditional American scrollwork with dot backgrounds. The engraving was done by A.A. White Engravers. The left grip has a rendition of Cody's face and his "TE" cattle brand, and both grip panels have Custom Shop medallions.

ConditionExcellent, retains 98% original finishes with some scattered light handling marks, the silver showing some slight age darkening in a few areas, and the gold showing some faint edge loss. The grips are excellent with a few very light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with a few light handling/storage marks.
