The gun has the stock style and furniture of a Brown Bess musket but lacks government markings and is smaller caliber, lighter built, and shorter. The lock has no internal or external bridles and is marked with a rendition of St. Edward's Crown (no "GR"). The barrel has a bayonet stud on top near the muzzle and "FC" on the left near the breech. The buttplate has "13" by the heel. The bayonet is marked "HARPER/& Co" and "O." A collection marking is on the trigger guard.
Fair with dark brown on the lock and barrel, mild pitting concentrated near the breech, aged patina on the brass, chips and slivers absent from the stock around the lock, a crack in the toe, and general scrapes and dings. Mechanically fine.
