Desirable World War II "Vet Bring Back" German MP-40 (ayf Code) ERMA Registered Fully Automatic Class III/NFA C&R Submachine Gun

This is a fine example of a WWII German MP-40, fully functional, fully automatic submachine gun produced by the ERMA factory in Germany in 1941. They used many wartime stampings combined with limited machined parts to reduce manufacturing time and reduce cost. The original MP40 SMGs were all primarily produced by three factories: ERMA Werke, Haenel and Steyr. These were typically called a "Schmeisser", however that was incorrect as they are actually a "Machine Pistole" which derives from the Germans use of "MP" in their model number of MP-40. The rear receiver end cap of this example is stamped with: "MP40/ayf 43" over "4671m/COS". The side of the receiver tube, and on several locations it is stamped with a "WaA44" Waffenamt proof. It has matching numbers (usually 671) on the left side of the barrel, underside of the barrel nut, bolt, receiver tube, folding stock assembly, rear sight, trigger housing and firing pin assembly, with some having an appropriate German Waffenamt proof. It has the traditional dark brown bakelite grips and the dark red lower receiver cover. This MP-40 is complete with two 30 round stick magazines, both are marked MP-38/40. This wonderful SMG is accompanied by a signed documented from the original WWII vet stating that while serving in the 513th Parachute Regiment of the 17th Airborne, he acquire this weapon during the invasion of Germany in early 1945. It is also noted that this weapon has been reactivated, which appears to have been limited to only removing a plug that was welded inside the chamber of the barrel.

ConditionFine with 40% of the faded original blue finish showing overall on all the exposed metal surfaces with the balance having faded and browned out overall. The markings are clear and visible. The plastic components are all in fine condition having darkened with age and showing only minor handling marks on the sides in areas. It is missing the barrel resting bar. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
