The lock is marked "1856/TOWER" and the front with a "crown/17" proof and what appears to be a "crown/broad arrow" proof with the Victorian cipher at the rear. The barrel at the breech is marked with numerous British military proofs including a "crown/P/1" Pimlico refurbishment proof. The stock has a Pimlico broad arrow cartouche on the left side dated 1861. These rifles were widely used throughout the British Empire, as well as being exported in large numbers for use by both sides during the American Civil War.
Fine, showing 75% blue finish on the barrel with the balance a mixture of grey and brown patinas mainly at the muzzle (socket bayonet wear) and at the breech with some light pitting near the bolster. The wood is also fine with minor dings and scratches throughout and clear cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
