Gatling Gun Caissons and Six Broadwell Drum Magazines

The two modern, two-wheeled, blonde wood caissons have black iron fittings and vinyl seat cushions. Six modern Broadwell style 216 round capacity drum magazines in .45-70 caliber marked with a December 29, 2008, date of manufacture and Cyrillic maker marking are included and are contained in three wooden crates which fit in one of the caissons. The innovative Broadwell "Feeder for Repeating Fire Arms" was patented in 1872 by Lewis Wells Broadwell who was listed as a U.S. citizen then living in Carlsruhe, Grand Duchy of Baden. He was a European sales agent for the Gatling Gun Company and also held other innovative patents unrelated to Gatling Guns. The drum magazine uses multiple stacks of cartridges all pointed towards the center and is set up for rapid manually switching from one stack to the other allowing for hundreds of rounds to be fired without reloading. A Gatling gun with six Broadwell magazines and a team that could reload them while the gun was in operation could pour a devastating amount of firepower on their adversaries. They are known to have been employed both in field and naval applications, including by the British in South Africa.

ConditionVery fine overall with numerous spots of oxidation on drum magazines, minor age and storage related wear. Caissons are also very fine.
