The Model 1816 musket was the most widely produced of any U.S. musket with nearly 700,000 being produced. A large number were converted to percussion prior to the Civil War. This example shows no signs of being converted. It has standard markings and features of the Type I variation, "1823" (faint) dated barrel tang, 1822 dated lock, and a "GDM" George D.
