This attractive 18th century German jaeger rifle has a brass barrel with deep seven-groove rifling, circle designs on the muzzle, a dovetailed brass blade front sight, polished iron rear sight with folding leaf and sculpted scroll finial, "A FRANCKFVRT" signed on top, and scroll and floral engraving along with a boar head design engraved on the breech section along with coordinating designs on the iron tang. The lock is also brass and is signed "M. GERLACH" under the frizzen and has scroll engraving. It is fired using adjustable double set triggers. The furniture is engraved with scroll and floral patterns along with various other motifs, including a stag on the trigger guard bow, mask designs and a female bust on the pierced side plate, and a classical male bust and martial trophies on the buttplate. The stock has fine molding and floral and scroll carving in raised relief that extends onto the wood patch box lid. The carving around the broad cheek rest is particularly intricate.
