Parker Brothers 8 Gauge PH Grade Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun with Rare 40 Inch Barrels

Manufactured in 1919. Single brass bead on the matted, concave solid rib which is marked "PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN. DAMASCUS STEEL." and chambers measured at 3 1/2 inches with single extractor. The lumps appears to have been resoldered at some point in the gun's history. The massive casehardened size "7" action displays standard PH grade engraving of light zig-zag border engraving around the edges. Highly figured, multi-point checkered renumbered splinter forend with engraved fittings, including the Deeley latch release and lightly figured pistol grip stock with more simple checkering, hard rubber grip cap, blank silver inscription shield at the top of the wrist, and dog's head buttplate. In the chart on page 267 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, this configuration is not listed as ever having been made, likely meaning that this gun is one-of-a-kind or at least extremely rare. Stock measurements: 2 inch drop at comb; 3 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; weight 15 lbs. 10 oz.

ConditionVery fine, showing a smooth brown patina on the barrels, silvered case colors on the action and locks with flashes in some protected areas, light areas of oxidation, and mild handling evidence. The wood is very good with numerous chips, dings, and scratches and worn but well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
