Patrick Smith of Buffalo, New York, was a gunmaker and retailer c. 1835-1881. His shop produced a wide variety of muzzleloading firearms. This combination gun has a rifled upper barrel and smoothbore lower barrel. It is fitted with a modern blade front sight, rear sight dovetail filler block, tang mounted 20th century replacement Lyman peep sight, marked "P. SMITH BUFFALO N-Y- 58" on top at the breech, a pair of back action locks with border engraving, dual triggers, border engraved German silver furniture, and checkered buttstock with some nice figure.
Very good with mottled gray and brown patina on the iron, some mild pitting, aged patina on the furniture, and mild overall wear. The stock is good and has a chip at the toe, some cracks and repairs, distinct checkering, some minor dings and scratches, and attractive figure. Mechanically fine.
