Single steel bead sight on top of the matted blued barrel, standard markings, 2 inch wedges of floral scroll on either side of the breech, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and choke measured modified. The blued receiver displays exceptional floral scrollwork with gold inlaid linework bordering a pair of beautifully cut game scenes. The left side shows a setter flushing a pair of pheasants in an upland scene and the right side shows a single alighting mallard in a pond scenes. The top of the action shows a third scene with a single grouse in flight above the tall grass. This gun is pictured on page 383 of William Brophy's "Marlin Firearms: A History of the Guns and the Company That Made Them", on which he states the gun was engraved by Alden George Ulrich, however, R. L. Wilson postulated in an included copy of a letter, that the engraving was the work of Conrad Friedrich Ulrich. Either way it is clear the engraving was carried out by a talented master. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with raised "GH" monogram carved in the underside and pistol grip stock with added Jostan recoil pad. Includes a second barrel measuring 30 inches and featuring a 2 3/4 inch chamber and full choke.
