C. Lee Signed Engraved Officer's Style Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trapdoor Single Shot Rifle

Receiver manufactured in 1883 and subsequently upgraded to the current configuration. The barrel features a small spray of fine floral scroll engraving on the upper left and right barrel flat with a cathedralesque arch of matting on the top flat around the beaded blade front sight with flip up moon bead, three leaf express rear sight consisting of one standing leaf and two folding leaves with gold inlaid center lines graduated 100, 200, and 300 respectively. The barrel is marked on the top flat "LOWELL MANLEY SHOOTING SUPPLIES, 3684 PINE ST. DECKERVILLE, MICHIGAN." ahead of the rear sight and "ENGRAVED BY C. LEE" behind it with both markings in matted panels similar to the one around the front sight. The receiver and lockplate have been casehardened and display floral scroll engraving to match the barrel. The low arch breech block is marked "U.S./Model/1884". Mounted in a beautifully contrasted multipoint checkered walnut stock with rosewood forend tip, shadowline cheekpiece, engraved fittings, an engraved casehardened pistol grip cap, and engraved blued steel buttplate.

ConditionVery fine as upgraded and engraved by C. Lee, retaining 98% plus of the blue finish and vibrant case colors with limited handling marks, a few spots of light oxidation mostly on the breech as well as crisp engraving. The stock is very fine as well with a few minor handling marks, a short stress line coming off the rear of the lockplate, a tiny chip at the front lock screw eyelet, and crisp checkering. The breech block latch has a weak spring, otherwise mechanically fine.
