This pair of fine, very high quality engraved Spanish made shotguns were made for John Rigby & Company, London, England. Both are 12 gauge with chopperlump barrels with single silver bead sights on the smooth concave solid ribs and marked "PEDRO ARRIZABALAGA, EIBAR" on the right barrels and "MADE FOR J. RIGBY & CO., LONDON" on the left barrels. There is a gold inlaid "1" (A) and "2" (B) on the breech end of the rib. Each has 2 3/4 inch chambers, choked modified/improved modified with ejectors. The barrels, trigger guards and break levers are blue, and the actions are satin coin finished. The assisted opening actions, trigger guards and break levers are nicely engraved with an acanthus scroll pattern and "P ARRIZABALAGA" in a banner on each lockplate. The locks are hand detachable, the cocking indicators have gold inlaid indicators, and the front triggers are articulated. Automatic tang mounted safeties with gold inlaid "SAFE", and the top of the break levers have a gold inlaid "1" (A) and "2" (B). The shotguns are mounted with fancy checkered select walnut forearms with engraved hardware and gold inlaid "1" (A) and "2" (B) on the forend hardware and finely checkered straight grip stocks with tear drop flats, checkered bare butts and a silver initial oval inscribed JDM". The pair is complete in a hard green canvas takedown case with leather corner and edge protectors, leather handle and two leather straps. The lining is purple flannel with a John Rigby label affixed to the inside of the lid and a two-piece wood and brass cleaning rod. Excellent plus. The shotgun retains virtually all of the original finish with a couple of minor scuffs on the barrels. The wood is also excellent plus with a few light scuffs on the stock and overall light handling marks and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is excellent.
