Preview Day: Thursday, Oct 3rd 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Rock Island Auction Company’s Oct. 4-6 Sporting & Collector Auction offers something for every level of collector in the field of fine firearms, from antique revolvers and rifles from Colt and Winchester to modern guns and sporting arms. The three-day sale has 3,423 lots featuring 4,688 guns.

An historic presentation cased Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver with factory engraving by Gustave Young leads the October event. The gun, manufactured in 1861 features deluxe Germanic scroll engraving on a punch-dot background is inscribed on the backstrap to "Lieut Jas B. Smith/Co D National Guards 2nd Regt Philada."

Class III items used to be rarities in Sporting & Collector rosters, but that is no longer the case. A Colt M16A2 Commando pattern select fire carbine, a late World War 2 German MP3008 submachine gun and two scarce Sterling Mark III submachine guns are highly sought after items available alongside several other Class III offerings. Other highlights of the auction will be two Civil War era Henry rifles offered separately as well as Colt Single Action Army revolvers with ties to Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders and George Custer’s 7th Cavalry, respectively.
