Propelled by Class III firearms and large bore guns, Rock Island Auction Company’s recently completed Oct. 4-6 Sporting & Collector Auction realized $7,684,500.

This Colt M16A2 led the NFA items. Its Commando style and early helium neon laser sight, the selectfire carbine achieved $49,938.

A Colt M16A2 returned $49,938 while consecutively numbered Sterling Mark III submachine guns brought $32,313 and $41,125 in back-to-back lots. An A. Square Hannibal bolt action rifle chambered for the massive .577 Tyrannosaur soared to $16,450, nearly triple its high estimate, while a Mauser Tankgewehr 1918 bolt action anti-tank rifle converted to .50 BMG drew $9,400.

Among antique guns, a New Haven Arms Volcanic lever action carbine earned $19,974, while an engraved, gold and silver inlaid Mauser C96 Broomhandle carbine collected $11,750. An engraved Colt first generation Single Action Army nearly doubled its high estimate, claiming $11,163 and a Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 lightweight lever action rifle returned $10,575. Not to be left behind, an Ohio Colt fluted cylinder Model 1860 Army crossed the podium for $7,638.

This Colt fluted cylinder Model 1860 Army shipped to Ohio Gov. William Dennison on the eve of the Civil War crossed the podium for $7,638 in the recently completed Sporting & Collector Auction.

A Hunter Arms/L.C. Smith 20 gauge Crown Grade double barrel shotgun and a Pre-64 Model 70 African Super Grade rifle each posted $9,400 returns. A Fabrique Nationale High Power upgraded by gunsmith Jim Hoge led modern guns. The High Power went for nearly 10 times more than its estimate, grabbing $11,163.  It was followed by an embellished third generation Colt Single Action Army that achieved $9,400, almost doubling its high, as well as an engraved and gold inlaid Colt Python and a game scene engraved Smith & Wesson double action revolver with a case that both drew $7,638 and a Norinco Type 86S bullpup eased past its estimate to $6,563.

This FN High-Power was customized and upgraded by Jim Hoge and brought an outstanding $11,163.

Thank you to all of our collector friends and consignors for such a great auction. We look forward to hosting the Premier Auction in Bedford, Texas on Dec. 6-8 with a preview day on Dec. 5.
