Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine

This is a 1906 production Third Model 1873 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine with the distinctive dust rail integral to the top of the receiver. It features a fixed front sight and a folding ladder carbine rear sight. The top of the barrel has the standard two line address/King's improvement patent dates followed by the Winchester oval proof ahead of the rear sight. The top of the breech end of the barrel is marked "38 W.C.F." and the top of the receiver is marked with the Winchester oval proof. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873 ' -WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" and the serial number is on the lower tang. Saddle ring and staple are mounted on the left side of the receiver and the carbine is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock, with an iron carbine buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included).

ConditionVery good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina with scattered traces (30%) of original blue finish on the barrel and stronger original blue (40%) on the receiver, concentrated in the protected areas of the side plates and saddle ring. The buttplate has a smooth mottled gray patina. The revarnished wood is very good with a few small shallow gouges, dings and scratches on the stock, which has a pleasant hand rubbed appearance. The oversized replacement forearm has been refinished and shows a few light handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is very good.
