Factory Engraved New Haven Arms Co., Henry Lever-Action Rifle
The top and sides of the brass receiver and the heel and bottom of the brass buttplate are engraved with the standard Henry engraving pattern executed by Samuel J. Hoggson (similar engraving is illustrated on page 23 of WINCHESTER ENGRAVING by R.L. Wilson). The front receiver panels are engraved with with large floral designs in double bordered panels with scalloped edges. The left sideplate is engraved with a hunting dog on point surrounded by open scrollwork on a punch-dot background. The right sideplate is covered with scrollwork on a punch-dot background. Both side plates are engraved with double-line borders with wavy edges. The top and sides of the receiver and the upper tang are engraved with scroll-work flourishes on punch-dot background. The heel of the buttplate has scroll and punch-dot engraving and, unusually, the bottom of the buttplate is engraved with scroll work. The face of the butt trap is engraved with a star burst. The barrel has a nickel-silver front sight blade with flat back and a dovetail mounted folding leaf rear sight. The left side of the varnished walnut stock is fitted with a factory sling swivel and a factory loop for a sling hook is mounted on the left side of the barrel. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line legend: "HENRY'S PATENT. OCT. 16. 1860/MANUFACT'D Y THE NEW HAVEN ARMS. CO. NEWHAVEN.CT." ahead of the rear sight. The serial number, "5011" is restamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver, on the lower left receiver tang, the upper tang inlet of the stock . The inside of the buttplate is numbered "8720". The late style cap screws on the buttplate and tang are, correctly, not serial numbered. The buttplate has the late style pointed heel. The butt trap contains the four-piece iron cleaning rod with brass tip that was provided with later manufacture Henry rifles.

Winchester 1895 Rifle 405 WCF
This is a Deluxe Winchester Model 1895 takedown rifle that was manufactured in 1918. The rifle has a blue finish with highly figured, "fancy grade" walnut stock and forearm with "style H" checkering. The forearm has a ebony or horn inlay at the tip. The stock has a straight wrist with casehardened crescent steel buttplate. The round barrel has a Marble's "SHEARD" front sight with gold bead. The rear sight dove-tail is fitted with a factory blank. A Lyman "WR-WT" rear sight is mounted on the left side of the receiver; the sight is the early pattern that lacks the windage adjustments. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: -NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines between the rear sight dovetail and the receiver. The caliber designation: "405 W.C.F." is stamped on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The oval "WP" Winchester proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the receiver and on the top of the receiver to the left of the matting. The two-line Winchester legend and patent dates are roll-stamped on the left side of the receiver underneath the rear sight mount. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1895/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG.IN.U.S.PAT.OFF." in three lines. The serial number, "398376" is located on the lower tang behind the trigger. The Model 1895 Winchester was the first successful box magazine lever action rifle. The combination of a takedown rifle with deluxe stock and forearm and 405 WCF cartridge is rare.
