The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/1884 and 1885 patent dates, the breech end of the barrel and receiver are marked with the Winchester oval proof and the left rear is marked "40-65 W.C.F.". The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1886/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK".and the 1884 and 1885 patent dates are marked on the lower tang directly behind the trigger, and the serial number is marked at the end of the lower tang behind the lever. Brass blade front sight and folding carbine ladder rear sight graduated to "20". All blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, saddle ring and stud mounted on the left side of the receiver and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate.
